RetroFoam Insulation Process
What to Expect with RetroFoam
Whether your property is sided with vinyl or aluminum, the insulation process from Comfort Shield RetroFoam is fast and simple.
- We remove a row of siding all around your house and then remove any existing loose-fill cellulose in your walls by vacuuming it out. Fiberglass does not need to be removed.
- We drill a 2.5-inch hole into each wall cavity to search for obstructions inside. If there are obstructions, we remove another row of siding above or below it, and so on.
- Once we have clear access to all the wall cavities, we inject the insulating foam, ensuring it fills all the nooks and crannies.
- We plug the wall holes, replace the siding, and clean up the area.

RetroFoam Is Available for Other Kinds of Walls
RetroFoam can be used on exterior brick, wood, block, and stucco walls, as well as in interior drywall and plaster spaces.
- Brick walls - We drill into the mortar at the top, middle, and bottom of the wall to fully access the wall cavity and, once the foam is injected, patch the mortar.
- Wood siding - If the wood is sound, we remove it, inject the foam through holes drilled in the sheathing underneath, and then replace the wood. If the wood is old and brittle, we drill right through it to the wall cavities and then patch the wood.
- Block walls - Since block cores are lined up, we simply drill into the middle of the wall, inject the foam, and then patch the wall with mortar.
- Stucco walls - As with brick walls, we drill into the top, middle, and bottom of the walls. Once the foam is injected, we fill the holes with mortar.
- Interior drywall or plaster - To avoid dust contamination, we cover everything inside your property with plastic and then inject the foam through a single hole in each wall cavity. The holes are patched with drywall mud and the room is cleaned up.
In any case, you can expect amazing service from our experienced crew. We're specialists in getting foam into the walls of older homes!
